Message: Good day!
Our group is actually a mother company which provides communication to other volunteer stations/brigades (28 fire Stations with approximately 1000 volunteer fire fighters) all over Metro Manila. Volunteer fire brigades in our country is run by private organizations without support from our government. Our condition reflects the situation of the all other volunteer fire brigades/fire stations in that:
1. Our turn out gears are manufactured by small time tailoring companies made from non fire retardant/fire proof material. made just to protect us from the extreme heat of the fire but will definitely catch fire if heated enough. We don't even use hoods and gloves due to the high costs of purchasing them. Mostly, we share turn out gears with 1 gear:3 volunteers.
2. Our boots are so old that we often have to get the rubber vulcanized just so we can use them.
3. our organization does not have self contained breathing apparatus.
4. all our equipment are make shifts like fabricated ceiling hooks.
5. only our engine is an original fire truck the tankers we have are converted oil tankers that has a pump. due to the height of the financial crisis, we also are having a hard time maintaining them. they also lack enough safety lights and siren to prevent accidents from responding to emergencies. some are not working already.
6. Our fire hoses are due for replacement already.
7. We are also having a hard time maintaining our communication equipment (repeaters, base radios, handheld radios, antennas). Hoping for your kind and positive response on the matter. Thank you!
Sincerely yours,
R.M.T., M.D.
