Please help us Welcome Chaplain Skip Straus and his staff to the growing list of relations and services for those who seek our offerings.

Chaplain Straus is an ordained nondenominational pastor and is the Founder and President of Emergency Ministries. Chaplain Straus has been involved in fire and EMS services since 1973. Today, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Counseling, an Advanced and Pastoral Crisis Intervention certificate in Critical Incident Stress Management and holds certificates of training in Fire as well as EMS Chaplaincy.

Chaplain Straus a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and is “Board Certified Crisis Chaplain” in Traumatic Stress. Skip is a long time member of Chaplain Fellowship Ministries and holds a “Master Chaplain” Certification. Chaplain Straus is a certified Level 1 Firefighter Instructor, a Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic and works full time on a 9-1-1 medic unit. He is a Field Training Officer & Relief Supervisor for the city where he is employed.

Chaplain Straus is a graduate of the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, MD (EMS Division) with a certificate in “Advanced Safety Operations and Management.” Chaplain Straus spent five weeks in New York City at “Ground Zero,” following the attack on the World Trade Center, working directly with the FDNY - within the 1st Battalion - talking one-on-one with many of the firefighters, EMTs and police officers who survived the attack and collapses. He spent several days “on the pile” as an on-duty Chaplain, for two different sector commands, assisting in the removal of human remains of fallen members of service.

In addition to serving as the Chaplain for FieldMedics.com, Chaplain Straus actively serves as Chaplain for several fire and EMS agencies in southeast Texas. Chaplain Straus has authored two devotionals that appear in the “Firefighter Bible” published by Holmon Bible Publishing. He writes a weekly article called “STRESS RELIEF”. Chaplain Skip also performs weddings and funerals.

Skip also runs Emergency Ministries which provides Chaplaincy service to EMS, Fire, Paramedic and Police agencies on-scene and “behind scene” with an emphasis is on Critical Incident Stress mitigation. The services offered by Emergency Ministries are without regard to religious affiliation (or lack thereof). We have sat down (sometimes on the scene) with these everyday heroes on issues involving things such as; fatalities involving children, multiple fatality accidents, deaths of co-workers, marital problems, substance abuse issues and the like.

“To come alongside first-responders who experience extraordinary human events daily and to offer them emotional and spiritual support services.”

Emergency Ministries is a group of specially trained Chaplains who respond to the needs of our first responder community. Founded in December of 1998, we became incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of Texas in 2000 and received our 501.c.3 non-profit status from the IRS in August of 2000. One very specific requirement to become an Emergency Ministries Chaplain is to have “Worn the Badge.” This means that each of our Chaplains has served as a first responder as is or has been an EMT, Firefighter, Paramedic or Police Officer. It is vital to the success of our mission that the Heroes we engage know they are sitting across from someone who truly “Has been there, has done that,” and knows where they have been and what they have seen
