A $1,000 check from the Winfield-Foley Firefighter Association was presented to the International Fire Relief Mission (IFRM) to help provide third world countries with better equipment to fight fires. The nonprofit organization has been established since 2007 and recently several local individuals have joined in to help raise money and gather donations for the cause. IFRM not only provides firefighting material for third world countries, but also EMS equipment.

The group has received many donations so far from area fire departments and the ambulance districts. The supplies are currently being stored at Hwy. 61 Storage for free until the mission to deliver is completed.

“We are really grateful for the Winfield-Foley Fire Department volunteers. The money they donated will go a long way in helping to get our gear overseas,” said Ryan Ruckel, IFRM volunteer. “Knowing that many of these people fight fires in just a t-shirt and jeans without the training is just astounding. We are happy to help them become better equipped by sending over our gear that we replace to stay up to code.”

Much of what today’s firefighters and EMS workers use is replaced often to stay up to code, but may be in really good shape still. Instead of throwing perfectly good hoses and equipment away they are now donation to IFRM to help others out.

Each delivery that is made typically cost $25,000 but more is typically raised to help cover the costs of collecting, warehousing, packing, shipping, and overseas programs to deliver this emergency equipment and provide the demonstrations for its proper use. Since 2008 IFRM has made over a dozen trips to help provide other countries with the support they need to fight fires.
