Volunteer Spotlight - Ryan Ruckel

The International Fire Relief Mission is pleased to welcome Asst. Chief Ryan Ruckel Sr., who brings nearly 20 years of firefighting and public safety experience to the IFRM team. Chief Ruckel will serve as IFRM's in-country coordinator for Malawi, Africa and the regional collections coordinator for Missouri and western Illinois.

Chief Ruckel leads all training efforts with the Winfield Foley (Mo.) Fire Protection District. He is also the environmental safety and health manager for a St. Louis-based materials company. He was previously the training officer and lieutenant for the Clin-Clair Volunteer Fire Department in Albers, Ill., and worked as an aircraft rescue firefighter for the Louisville International Airport.

Chief Ruckels' international experience includes being a battalion chief of a fire department in Bosnia-Herzegovina where he served as a lead instructor, supervised a 43-member multi-national firefighting team and consulted as an expert on NFPA requirements.

 In addition, Chief Ruckel is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
